I first met Susan in third grade, and she was the first person I ever knew who could spin a top.  Susan was fearsome smart, with a shy, sly sense of humor, and she wanted to be a doctor.  1965 wasn't the dark ages, but it was still lots easier for girls to become nurses than doctors, so that's what Susan grew up to be. When I moved back to Texas, one of the first people I looked up was Susan (never Sue) Gibbs.  She wouldn't meet with me because she was bald.  I didn't know what that meant, thought she was kidding.  She didn't seem to want to pick up with me again, and the next thing I heard--right here--was that she had died.  She was a good one.
