I first met Susan in third grade, and she was the first person I ever knew who could spin a top.  Susan was fearsome smart, with a shy, sly sense of humor, and she wanted to be a doctor.  1965 wasn't the dark ages, but it was still lots easier for girls to become nurses than doctors, so that's what Susan grew up to be.

When I moved back to Texas, one of the first people I looked up was Susan (never Sue) Gibbs.  She wouldn't meet with me because she was bald.  I didn't know what that meant, thought she was kidding.  She didn't seem to want to pick up with me again, and the next thing I heard--right here--was that she had died.  She was a good one.

Obituary

A memorial service for William "Bill' R. Heacock, a nationally known author and historian of antique glass, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Dallas.

Heacock, who was 41, died Sunday in Pittsburgh after a 13-month battle with AIDS. The body was cremated.

Heacock graduated from L.D. Bell High School in Hurst in 1966.

He worked for two years for Western Union Co. in Dallas after high school. In 1971, he moved to Jonesville, Mich., where he became a glass collector and dealer.

Heacock, a Dallas native, published 27 books about glass. He also wrote columns for several antique glass publications. He became a contributing editor for Rainbow Review Glass Journal in 1975.

In 1978, Heacock helped found the Historical Glass Museum at Redlands, Calif. In 1982, he became editor and publisher of The Glass Collector, an Ohio-based quarterly research publication about glass.

Heacock moved to Pittsburgh in 1986 and became senior adviser for Glass Collectors Digest a year later.

He was a member of the National Association of Dealers in Antiques.

Heacock's longtime companion was Nick Daemous, a technical instructor for nuclear power plants who cared for Heacock full time in the last year of his illness.

Heacock is survived by his mother, Patti Tobin-Brittain of Carrollton; two sisters, Cathy Heacock O'Donnell of Irving and Lisa Tobin of Dallas; and his stepfather, David Tobin of Dallas.

My memories of Bill are of a sweet and loving person who was looking for himself. He went to church with me several times and wanted to be closer in his relationships. He was lonely at school, and he treasured his friends in Drama and the after school events. I regret not giving him more attention that busy senior year.
He was more interesting than most people knew and  it is our loss. He was a sweet and kind person to me.

From Lynda Hunter on June 3rd, 2011
Bill Heacock was my friend.  He was funny and sweet and smart--such a good writer, such a quick imagination.  We were in journalism and drama classes together and hung out together after school.  We went to the prom together--it's a dinner dance, you know, and both of us were aces at eating and dancing.  He was kind, and his feelings were tender.  When he died, I was so angry with him, but that's over now.  Still wish he was with us, though.  Bill and so many more.

I had known Corynne from the time I was 9 years old,she ran around with my sister Marcy. We always called her Crickett (a nickname) as some may remember she got back when she was playing soft ball as a kid.I loved her dearly for all she did for my family over the years. It was like having another sister. She was always around. When I was grown and needing a place to stay she took me in gave me aplace to stay and call home! I miss her every day. But I know I will see her again one day! Here's looking at you kid!!

Obituary

BEDFORD - Beverley Ann Waldrip, 54, a stockbroker, died Thursday, March 8, 2001 in Bedford.

Funeral:  Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Chapel. Burial: Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park.

Memorials: Light of Life Ministries, P.O. Box 54545, Hurst, Texas, 76054 or the Humane Society of North Texas in Fort Worth.

Beverley Ann, born Dec. 17, 1946, lost her fight with cancer on March 8th. A devout Christian whose faith was challenged but never lost, Beverley was an angel who walked among us.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Merlene Essary, and her daughter, Rachel Michelle.

She was a gifted securities analyst and trader whose passions were scuba diving, her children and, most of all, her husband of 19 years, Larry. If one word were to encompass all that she was, that word would be giving. From the gifts that she gave to the Angel Tree angels each Christmas, to the blankets she crocheted for the neo-natal unit at Cook Children's Hospital, her gift was her unconditional love. That love was a fire that radiated warmth beyond those who knew her to warm some of those who never would. Although she met adversity with a fist, her strongest weapons were a smile and a kind word. She was totally incapable, even in her suffering, of conducting herself with anything less than grace, class and dignity of a saint. She was a warrior who went down swinging, and, although you may not feel it, the world will never be the same.

Survivors: Husband, Larry; sons, Robert and Richard Embry; daughter, Rebecca Waldrip; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
